Finally, a DPS race!
We one-shot the Lower Spire last night but didn't quite manage to down Rotface — which I'm actually thrilled about. No one likes wipes or repair bills for their own sake, but finally coming up against a fight that we couldn't master in one night? Awesome.
... Heroic Anub'arak doesn't count, by the way. >.> We run exactly one block-capable tank, and he seems to be vacationing in Rio or — inexplicably — North Dakota every other weekend.
Anyway, I imagine Rotface will fall fairly quickly tonight, and then it will be on to Festergut: the first real DPS race we've encountered since hard-mode Assembly of Iron. I'm really, really looking forward to it — not because I can't wait to win Recount (I'm a healer :p), but because it will force a hard DPS threshold on a handful of consistently underperforming raiders.
See, I'm one of those soft-hearted guild leaders who thinks effort matters. Still can't break 5K DPS on a stationary fight? Don't worry about it. Just try harder. Moar and Azargoth and Neville will carry you. /pat
But on Festergut? On Festergut, my consolatory "E" for Effort can very easily become a one-way ticket to Group 6. Barely edging ahead of the tank? Sorry. Log some time with the target dummies and try again next week — if I haven't replaced you by then.
... I sound awful, don't I? No, don't lie: I know I do. It's just that after months of feeling obligated to carry people simply because I can (and because I like them; I genuinely like everyone in my guild — even the rogues, although if anyone asks, I'll deny it), I'm relieved to have an excuse to stop that won't make me feel mean.

I wish I was able to schedule raiding into my overly busy college schedule. I miss the excitement of raiding
. I hope the rest of ICC is really fun. Professor P looks interesting

There’s always 10’s! In spite of what you might believe :p, I’ll tank with you anytime.

Is there a certain night that you always run a 10 man? I would love to be a regular part of it, and I knew what night I would make all sorts of effort to arrange it
That being said, the only reason I can’t fit 25s in is because I would only be able to make 2/3 of T/W/Th

We haven’t been running them consistently for a while. My old achievement team broke up two weeks /before/ the group I cobbled together from its remains got Insanity. I think we plan on rebuilding rather than rebanding for ICC 10. In the meantime, Elam’s starting another 10-man so I’m not sure who will end up running with who, when.

TBH i was a bit dissapointed with Fester and Rot, we one shot Rot and took a couple of attempts on Festergut. Sure neither were particularly clean kills but it’s still feeling a bit too easy. Hoping the hard modes add more mechanics and don’t just up the numbers.
With the new self nerfing technology in ICC I don’t see why they need to be so easy, especially when they’re also artificially limiting progression.

I hear ya.
Rot definitely wasn’t a one shot for us (we struggled to maintain our coordination in the latter third of the fight), but we downed Festergut last night and he was definitely /not/ the unforgiving DPS race I was hoping for. We stalled for longer on Patchwerk — although given that we started him in our old T6 raid gear and a smattering of dungeon blues, I guess that isn’t too surprising.

Admittedly after losing all 10 attempts on proffessor last night my opinion on ICC has changed a fair bit

Yeah, I’ve had to drop the lowest DPS on Festergut a few times before we downed him. It’s part of the challenge of being a good raid leader.

I didn’t.
I’m kind of disappointed. After wiping I don’t even know how many times on Rotface (it took two or three hours of attempts over the course of two nights to nail down the coordination — a breeze by TBC standards, but a veritable block wall in WotLK!), I expected Festergut to be harder… especially since we were running six healers instead of five and not all of our DPS is up in the 7K – 8K range yet. But, no. Three or four practice shots and he was a blob of dead gelatinous flesh instead of undead gelatinous flesh. (Ew!, btw.)

Yeah, he’s pretty ugly. The Yogscast Preview for ICC was hilarious.

Festergut: “WTF is THAT!?”
I was having flashbacks to when my guild was terrible and we wiped on thaddius 25 for 4 hours every week.
