I realize that I’m overreacting …
... but when WoW Insider linked to a new warlock blog called "Fel Fire," I actually felt betrayed. That was my name when I started blogging, and one that I still identify with rather strongly. Seeing someone else claim it stings. A lot.

NO! are you serious??

Looked up the WoW.com link to it and giggled for myself as they seem very very keen on emphasizing it’s a new blog.
I mean, WoW.com could have written “FF is a new warlock blog”, or “FF is a warlock blog that just started up”, or “FF is a warlock blog that started up recently” but nooo they have to go for all of it and write “Fel Fire is a new warlock blog that just started up recently”.
I think we get the picture
Silly writing aside, I understand how you feel, even if you have a new blog name now Fel Fire is still very much associated with you and your blogging history. It is an imba name for a warlock blog though, so I can also understand a new warlock blogger snagging it
Hugs!

I don’t think you’re over-reacting, I thought the same thing.

Hmm I’m sorry but I’ll always associate you with Fel Fire. That’s where I 1st started reading your stuff. I’d be pretty annoyed by it as well.

your impostor also sucks at english….”I thought maybe I should take the time and right something really nice here, something for my readers to get to know me, then I realized im lazy and I put it off.”
I am one of the last people to talk about grammar (I’m pretty sure elleiras corrected the english in my dps questionnaire, i know this because when I re-read it dashes had been used in what I am assuming is a grammatically correct way and I have never used dashes as a writing tool in my life) but even I know the difference between write and right.

I did edit… a little, tiny bit.
(You should see what I do to Jef’s blog! He doesn’t even recognize his posts when I finish with them — although I deliberately did not edit his last one because I want to encourage him to start writing again, not give it up in frustration over my grammar nazi-ish tendencies. >.>)
My sister and best friend are currently having a Facebook discussion about how I am vicious with a red pen /and/ abuse adjectives. I’m not sure if I should be amused or offended.

If it makes you feel any better, Fel Fire in google still puts yours as the top hit.
I also don’t think you’re overreacting though, I think it is exceptionally bad form to take the name of a blog already used, even one which is too similar to an existing one. (Case in point Hots and Dots, then there is also a much more recent Dots and Hots
)
My only charitable (ish) thought for the person is that perhaps they did find your blog, saw that it had been relocated and renamed, and assumed the name was up for grabs again.. Still would’ve been nice if they’d /asked/ first.. But still.

My first thought when I saw the wow.com article was, elle’s going goblin? Then I saw it wasn’t you, and I don’t like auction posts, so I stopped reading.

I am not sure I think you’re overreacting either. I think it’s pretty depressing to see the name you used for so long now used for someone else.
With all the hundreds of blogs out there, though, maybe they just didn’t find your old one? I’m not sure how I’d go about making sure that a blog title wasn’t taken. I’d probably just take a really whacky one to be safe… but perhaps this new warlock on the scene didn’t mean to recycle a name?
My question is, if they’re so new, how’d they already land on WoW.com?
I can only get on there by airing my dirty laundry to the world!

I know! If I write a personal or controversial blogpost that I’m terrified to publish because I just know it will incite drama if the wrong person reads it … it goes up on WoW Insider.
I love WoW.com for the link love, but I think this should be Murphy’s New Law.

Definitely not overreacting. I had the same reaction…”FF’s not new!…wait wth is this blog?”
November 22nd, 2009 - 19:28
Same as everyone else, I thought wtf.
November 22nd, 2009 - 21:41
Just echoing not adding, but I thought it was a shady move to use that name as well.

Is it strange that I don’t like that blog because it looks TOO professional? I mean… custom logo on the site, custom logo on the video, advertisements everywhere.
I like my blogs to feel more “homegrown”.
I doubt I’ll go back.

jebus I actually went to have a proper look this time unlike from Wow.com’s link… wtf. Videos, ads, mouseover graphics, custom graphics. I’m impressed but do not like, it reeks of commercialism instead of love of the game. (Also makes my MS Paint graphics will sad and lonely on my blog. Boo.)
There’s a comment on the first post in that blog that makes me even more sad: “i like the name”. Well, duh.

The guy who registered the domain didn’t do so by proxy: his full name, address and telephone number are available in the Whois database. So, naturally, I Googled him. ^.^ He seems to be a down on his luck graphic designer. I assume the “art” is his own and the blog is intended to provide advertising revenue. From what I’ve read so far (I pick at scabs, too >.< ), content certainly isn’t king.
He emailed me to apologize for stealing the name, claiming that he registered the domain before he stumbled across my Fel Fire. He admits that he found out about my blog before going public with his, but decided to keep the name because he “didn’t think it would be a problem.”
I offered to buy the domain from him, giving him the benefit of the doubt — surely, now that he knows about me, he’ll want to establish an identity that is uniquely him? — but he’s ignoring me.

I noticed this and thought of you too, so no, you’re not overreacting.
It looks like a blog unworthy of the name, if you ask me…
