A truly [Epic] night
We had to call another raid tonight. With our holy priest /afk and several DPS missing in action, it just wasn't happening.
This time, rather than attempt to split into two 10-man groups (and deal with all of the attendant drama), we decided to look for something we could 22-man — like Sarth 3D!
... Point of clarification: when I say "we," what I really mean is "the officers who weren't stuck in traffic for two hours this afternoon." >.< In my defense, I did call! I even managed to get my two coppers in, via Keaton. My plea? "Do something. Even if it's farm content. Or PvP. Or Brewfest." Our members set aside nine hours every week to play together; even if we can't pull together a progression raid, we can still have fun.
And, lo and behold, we did.
Even down three players, Sartharion was an easy one-shot — and a 30 minutes well spent, as our boomchicken won a Pennant Cloak (and finally earned the Epic achievement in the process!).
Then those who were interested headed off to Sunwell, an instance we never did see in The Burning Crusade. Because we are just. that. awesome., we managed to break the very first raid boss we stumbled across:
But as you can see, all was not lost! Kalecgos may have ended up permanently banished, but I finally leveled my Dagger skills to 400! (Best use of an ungemmed, unenchanted Spectral Kris ever, imo.)
We couldn't figure out how to reset the encounter, so everyone who had a hearthstone returned to Dal, while everyone who didn't (read: the shamans) caught a mole machine to BRD.
As long as we were there, we decided to smack Coren Direbrew around a few times. (Grats on the Kodo, Osaj. ^.^)
Then it was back to Sunwell Plateau to save Kalecgos, obliterate Brutalis, wipe a few times on Felmyst before taking her down to exactly 1 HP before that awful air phase ... zerg the Eredar twins ... zerg M'uru ... zerg Kil'jaden ...
... and, oh. my. god., is that Thori'dal, The Stars Fury?!
It was quite a night.

I liked out 10 minute KJ tactics discussion before we decided that zerging had worked so far and it was worth trying.
And warrior tanks getting Thori’dal is fun too.

That was very bad of Coffer! /giggle
… but I don’t think Imdman minded too much. He was practically giddy on Vent! Those are the moments that make coordinating the 25-man mess totally worth it.

He really was. “OMG IT SHOOTS LIGHTNING.”

I’m sorry, I must’ve read that wrong. A warrior got the legendary bow? Were there really no hunters there?
September 25th, 2009 - 16:00
The warrior decided to be funny and roll need (since all BoP items are tradeable now). He won the roll over our hunter and earned the feat of strength for looting Thori’dal. Then he passed it to the hunter, who was so excited to get the bow that he didn’t care about missing out on the achievement.

Ah, good!

How long did it take to clear Sunwell? I want the achieve’s for Sunwell and BT (since I took a break for most of TBC, I didn’t get to do them), but I don’t think I can sell people on a long run.

Um, good question. I was having fun so I kind of stopped paying attention. The wipes on Felmyst delayed us a bit, and then there was the whole bugged Kalecgos issue… which took long enough for me to level daggers from 396 to 400 and kill Coren Direbrew twice, lol.

lol, so a while. I was just wondering

We started OS3D a little late (9:50ish?) and were finished with that by about 10:20, and I believe we were done with SWP by 12:00, so about an hour and a half. Things to remember, though: Kalecgos took us 15-20 minutes himself, and Felmyst wipes were another 20-25. However, we were 12 or 13 manning a 25 man raid, which definitely had something to do with the wipes. If you have a full 15ish WoTLK geared DPS crew with you, Felmyst won’t be able to lift up and everything will be zerged even faster.
I have to agree with Ell on how freaking fun it was to do SWP last night, so if you have the chance to do it- take it!

A few months ago, I was on my DK doing Ony… she bugged through phase 2. In the time it took her to run into position for phase 2, we hit the the 40% mark… and she bugged across the room through the floor into position for phase 3.
Are there any of the fights where you have to obey the mechanics, or can you really zerg through them all?

You have to obey the mechanics on Kalecgos and Felmyst… kind of. We screwed up on Kalecgos’s portal phase (by ignoring it >.>) and ended up breaking the encounter. And if Felmyst makes it into the air, then you’ll experience a normal Phase 2.
Otherwise, it’s a zergfest.

Haha, so sorry to have missed this night, sounds like an absolute blast. While I pugged my way through a lot of the raid content I didn’t see in BC after 3.0.2 patch hit, when everything was relatively ‘easymode’, I still never set foot into SWP. Except that one time, when we took a trio of 80s in there, thought we might be able to get the first trash robot thingy down, and all ran screaming to the door in fairly short order.
Being able to zerg it all down is amazing. I know it was probably nothing like this, but I have this absolutely hilarious picture in my head of each boss encounter running along the lines of:
Tank: Anyone know what this guy does?
Raid: No.
*Healer Pulls. Possibly it was a tree. Possibly it was not. Oops.*
Everyone: Oh God. OH GODOHGOD! WE DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DOOOO!
Shaman: IF IN DOUBT, BLOODLUST!
RAARGLMURGLEBLURGLE! ((Where did the Murloc come from?))
*Victory Ensues*
Because. Bloodlust fixes everything.
