Sarah Palin resigns to concentrate on her WoW blog.

Against my better judgment, I clicked over to a certain Greedy Goblin's blog after reading Jong's response to Gevlon's latest misanthropic diatribe. I won't link to the latter here, because I refuse to give that little sociopath any more hits. He obviously thrives on attention — and if there's one thing playing foster mom to a house full of rescue dogs has taught me, it's the value of negative reinforcement to someone with canine-like subroutines.
Still, as I was skimming through Gevlon's latest trainwreck of a blogpost, I was struck by two notable similiarities between his writing style and Sarah Palin's speeches: (1) horrifically mangled English, and (2) a complete and utter disconnect from reality.
The more I think about it, the more it makes a bizarre kind of sense.
Gevlon plays on a European server. Sarah Palin can see Russia from her backyard.
Gevlon thinks everyone who isn't a Goblin with Goblin values is either a moron or a slacker, or both. Sarah Palin thinks that anyone who isn't a god-fearing, gun-toting social conservative who shoots moose (or Kennedys) for fun is palling around with terrorists.
Gevlon thinks "good enough" is usually sufficient. Sarah Palin has a degree in Communications.
Gevlon is deathly afraid of "trolls" (especially the intelligent, articulate ones who post well-reasoned but contradictory comments on his blog). Sarah Palin is deathly afraid of Katie Couric.
Gevlon disdains friendly, helpful people. Sarah Palin disdains Democrats.
Gevlon believes that poor people in helpless situations should become pirates and criminals. Sarah Palin ran for elected office.
Gevlon is convinced that everyone who disagrees with him is a useless social. Sarah Palin is convinced that anyone who disagrees with her is part of a vast worldwide conspiracy orchestrated by the mainstream media.
... I could go on, but I think you get the point.
So. While the rest of the world speculates on what seems to be an oddly timed, unconventional and entirely out of character move from the country's most controversial (ex-)governor since Gray Davis Rod Blagojevich Mark Sanford, smile smugly because you know the truth:

I agree with you 100% on Gevlon. I don’t even go over there, so as to keep my blood pressure down.
As for Palin…nnngh. I’ll refrain from commenting. Some days I think I’m the only conservative that plays WoW out of 11+ million people, so I’ll avoid dropping a C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER on the groupthink. I actually had to leave a guild OOC chat channel on one character on election night because the rules against “no politics” weren’t being enforced…obviously everybody was an Obama supporter and therefore happy and celebrating and insulting McCain and Palin, right?
It is good satire, though. The crack about the Communications degree, however, is dead on target.
And I wonder what Sarah Palin’s WoW blog would be called if she had one?

I quite often post on Gevlon’s blog, and I can be quite scathing about his view of the world; 99% of the time I disagree with him completely, and I am always amazed when my posts are not deleted (my respionse to his pirate/criminal post for example).
It is hard to dismiss him as a sociopath (I labelled him a psycopath in one post), because I do feel that a lot of the stuff he posts regarding M&S is just attention-seeking.
I have to laugh at posts like the recent one about the pointlessness of buying a mammoth. While I may agree that a mammoth is kind of pointless to have, I also think that earning gold up to the level cap is pointless as well.

Sure I’m Republican and I actually like Palin, but she is in no way ready for a Presidency. I cringe to think what might happen.

Gevlon is the sort of narcissistic, insolent troll that can only exist within the anonymous echo chamber of the internet. He has latched onto one or two ideas he might have gleaned from sociology 101 and turned it into a self-affirming and egotistical ideology that justifies his rudeness and general anti-social behavior. I have long since stopped giving him page views. In the interest of not feeding his vanity, I ask you and every other blogger to not reference him, even in jest. Let him die the cold death of irrelevance.

Unfortunately, the SNL skit was based on something she actually said. That’s another similarity between Sarah Palin and Gevlon; I could not make this stuff up if I tried.
For the record, I tend to be more Libertarian, too. I’d jump ship in a heartbeat if the LIbertarian candidates for office weren’t universally insane.

Actually, she said Alaska and Russia were “neighbors”…which, technically, is true, although it’s not exactly something to claim as “foreign policy experience.” Tina Fey turned it into “I can see Russia from my house.”
So what class do you think she’d play? I’m thinking female dwarf hunter.

The SNL skit was a satirical twist of the actual quote. “They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska.” (which is true – you can see Russia across the Bering Strait) was morphed into “I can see Russia from my house.” by Tina Fey.
Palin was an idiot for mentioning Russia in the first place (like it would qualify as foreign policy experience LOL), but the sad part is that the sheeple were conditioned by repetition of the satire quote to the point where the satire became false truth.

Also, to show I’m an equal opportunity kinda guy – did Al Gore say he invented the Internet? Hardly. But, the out-of-context shortening of what he actually said was equally unfair and ultimately damaging to him. It, too, was repeated ad nauseum to where it became a false truth.

There are a few conservatives in my guild, but the overwhelming majority are either liberal or Canadian (and therefore in a spectrum all their own). Even so, we had some heated debates around election time. In hindsight, I’m rather surprised we all made it out alive.
I’m actually more Libertarian in my views. I believe in self-determination and a small government, which used to be cornerstones of the Republican party. (I don’t think either party can claim to be for small government now.) Still, as much as I dislike our two party system, a one party system is even worse — so even though I’m not a Republican, I hope the GOP can effect a return to its small-government, federalist roots in time for the next election. I think that taking a more moderate approach to social issues and blanketing the extreme social conservatism under the banner of states rights — while focusing on fiscal conservatism at a time that government spending is running rampant — would entice more of the former base back to the party. (It might even entice me!) That’s just my personal opinion, though, and beyond the scope of a WoW blog.
The point is that diversity in government is a good thing. So is diversity in blogposts and comments. Your perspective, like your humor, is welcome here.
